The doric Temple, home of the God of Seas, Poseidon. Surrounded by the legend of Aegeus who killed himself when he noticed that his son, Theseus, did not manage to kill the Minotaur in Crete. According to the Greek mythology, Theseus had managed to kill the Minotaur but he forgot to change the black sail that meant loss with the white one that meant victory, on his sailing back to Athens. Therefore, his father committed suicide not knowing the real course of events. The Temple is located on the eastern part of Attica and really on a magical edge of the mountain. It is really a strategic place looking at the Aegean and communicating on a clear day with KEA, KYTHNOS, SERIFOS and AEGINA. Located on the hill of Athens that supervises the city from above the biggest monument that arises is the Parthenon. Don’t miss the chance to visit this magical monument if you are visiting Athens. During the peak months, it would be good to visit either quite early or in the afternoon because the rocky formation of the hill will make the temperatures unbearable. In addition, this way you would avoid the cues created from people trying to buy a ticket to enter. Right at the bottom of the hill the new Acropolis museum hosts all the important remainings of the Acropolis, found and secured in a really amazing building that is also worth visiting if you are in town. The oldest and to our opinion most traditional part of Athens is the area of Plaka. Open only to pedestrians, the little colorful streets with gift stores and small restaurants is really a must see when you are visiting Athens. Full of street musicians, artists that will paint your face as a caricature, little girls that try to sell you flowers, it sounds touristic (we won’t tell you that it’s not..) but it is really worth visiting. Take a good eye always at your wallet (because there are some cases of pickpocketing) and try not to buy all souvenirs to bring back home. In most of the restaurants you will eat well, while once you are in Greece we will recommend you the ones we tried recently and are worth visiting. Before going to lunch or dinner we suggest you first to visit the ancient agora (even if you are not a history lover it’s worth it) that is the surrounding part of the Acropolis. This used to be the heart of Ancient Athens where all political, commercial and social activity took place, where the laws of justice took place and where all the cultural topics were born. It is really a productive place of democracy, civilization progress and spiritual insights. A walk in the past that should not be missed if you are in town!
